For your consideration is a fabulous General Electric vintage oscillating electric fan in the Art Deco style that dates from the 1930s. The original black paint and polished aluminum blades and chromed steel accent parts (screws, oscillating knob) wonderfully contrast together and provide a dynamite look. The fan is estate fresh and has only been gently wiped clean, with several drops of lubricating oil applied to the oil port — it is ready for several more years of dependable service. The fan is in very good cosmetic condition, especially considering it is roughly 90 years old. The fan retains much of its original paint, although there is some paint loss on the base, oscillating housing, and cage, which the pictures clearly detail. The blades are polished aluminum and measure 12 in diameter. The fan’s width is 14″ and it stands 18″ tall. The base, motor housing, cage, struts, are all made of steel — this fan is extremely solid. The oscillating knob (on the top of the motor housing), which engages/disengages the oscillating mechanism, is chromed steel, as are cage and base screws. The cord from the motor to the switch in the base is original and in very good condition, while the cord from the switch to the plug is an old rubber replacement. According to GE fan catalogues of the period, the fan was marketed as the “Quiet Fan, ” with the overlapping blades reputed to provide quieter operation. This example is a very early example of the Quiet Fan line. In addition to operating on a desk or table (flat surface), the fan was also designed for operation on a wall — it can easily be mounted to a wall for vertical surface via screw holes in the base, and tilted appropriately. The fan runs and oscillates extremely well on three distinct speeds (quiet and smooth), and puts out an impressive breeze. In addition to the practical use of providing air movement, the fan could also be used as wonderful and stylish accent item in a range of settings vintage home, beach house, office, second home, etc. As it really conveys the 1930s and the deco period. Rest assured the fan will be expertly packed – it will be securely wrapped with 4-5 layers of bubble-wrap and double-boxed. Please see my feedback to learn how much clients appreciate the time and care I take in packing their items. In addition to the description, I have provided several pictures to show the cosmetic condition of the fan — please contact me if you have questions.
