Antique Early 1900's Hamilton Beach The Cyclone Nickel Plated 8 Electric Fan
This listing is for an Antique Early 1900’s Hamilton Beach “The Cyclone” Nickel Plated 8 Electric Fan. A few years ago I acquired this as well as some other items from an elderly gentleman that was an avid collector in vintage electronics and ham radio equipment his whole life. He had everything from microphones, reel to reel decks, CB base stations and turntables as well as instruments from the 1950’s and 1960’s. All of these items were handed down to him from his father as he himself took over collecting as well. This fan had been tuck away on a bookshelf in his fathers radio shop for many many years and was only somewhat dusty due to the low shelving that it was placed on. I blew the dust off and took a rag and wiped it clean for picture purposes. That is the extent of the cleaning that was done as I know nothing about restoration and didn’t want to disturb any patina if someone chose to keep it just the way it sits. It is in extremely nice condition cosmetically considering its age and still works but could use a good cleaning. The nickel plating has a couple of minor age related surface tarnish spots but there are absolutely no dents, dings or breaks anywhere to the cage, base or housing. It stands 8″ tall at the back with a 9″ cage diameter and a square base measuring 4 7/8″ x 4 7/8″. It has a cloth cord which does have a couple of “frayed” spots to the outer coating but still works well. It features a brass nameplate motor tag which carries the serial number F1641 (see 2nd to last pic). He stated that a few collectors said that the oldest known fan that they had seen was numbered F3727 which would make this fan even earlier yet. To my surprise, I learned that HB even produced other products that early such as electric vibrators, sewing machines and drink mixers. At any rate, I’m certain collectors will know so much more than I have researched and will find that with a complete restoration, this fan would make an excellent addition to someone’s collection and you will be hard pressed to find another one quite this old in this kind of condition.
