Here we have a very early GENERAL ELECTRIC PANCAKE MOTOR FAN we just acquired out of a local estate. The last patent date is 1901 and some are back in the 1800’s. We did not attempt to plug it in as the wires look bad and the inside of the motor looks extremely dirty. The brass tag on the top reads: ALTERNATING CURRENT FAN MOTOR NO. 187158 TYPE AK FORM D VOLTS 100/115 CYCLES 60. The cast iron motor case and base are in all original, untouched condition with no cracks or repairs. The wire fan cage has some breaks and a few old welds but appears complete other than the support arms to mount it to the fan. It also need straightened out a bit. It looks like the bolts to hold the motor on the base are not original. The shaft to hold the blade shifts in and out some and we are not sure is that is typical or not? The fan measures approximately 17 inches tall with the cage on and the blade is 12 inches across. The motor measures 7 inches across by about 3 inches thick and is really quite heavy. As you can tell, we are certainly not all that knowledgeable about early fans but I believe the pictures will sure help. The entire fan is just the way it was when discovered in the attic of the estate where it has not seen the light of day in a very long time. I would imagine that this would fan would make a fine addition to any collection once it was restored. I will package this original, very early 1900’s era GENERAL ELECTRIC PANCAKE MOTOR FAN with GREAT CARE to ensure it arrives at its new home in as seen condition..
