Antique Beautiful Original 1909 Stencil Cage Westinghouse Vane Oscillator
You are looking at a 1909 beautiful stencil cage Westinghouse Vane Oscillator that almost runs as good as it looks. I believe the paint is all original, with some paint chipping that was partially touched up by the original owner. I believe the brass is all original too, with the exception of the vane supports, the vane itself, and the rear cage ring. When I got this fan, the vane and supports were gone and sawed off. I had this fan repaired and the rear cage ring, vane supports, and vane are brand new. There are some minor issues with the fan though. The front bearing seems to be worn and sometimes you need to push start the blade because the centrifugal switch contacts do not contact the inner ring all the way as a result of the bearing issue. About 75% of the time, the blade will be in a position where it will start up on its own. Also, as a result of the worn bearings, when this fan is switched into high speed, you can hear the bearings begin to chatter. They will sometimes chatter on low speed too, but only if the blade is not far enough on the motor shaft. At the 1:45 mark in the video, the fan is switched into high speed and the bearing chatter can be heard. This fan is also missing the plastic brush caps, so it is possible to get a shock if the brass brush caps are touched. This fan will not oscillate unless the correct tension is placed on the bushes because the brushes that were placed in by the original owner are too long. I had to fabricate a new spring for the top brush because it was too long. Lubricating the bearings helps with the issue somewhat. The first box will contain the blade and the cage, and the second box will contain the base and motor. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
