Westinghouse was one of the first US companies that produced electric fans in the early 1900’s. Their fans were made solid and were described as “tanks”. This is attributed to the solid construction of all the. Used to build these fans. This is the early model 280598 model and has an 8 solid brass blade. This particular fan is extremely rare because it was built with a solid brass blade. Later versions had steel blades due to the demand for brass during the war. The cage, motor housing and base are constructed of steel and cast iron. It has one speed, an in line on/off switch, brass badge, stands 12″ tall, 6″ base, 9 cage and swivels up and down. This fan was completely restored, including. New UL approved power cord, paint, felt, and re-plated hardware. Everything looks and functions just like it did when first manufactured. You can be assured, this is a professional restoration and you will not be disappointed. Model: Whirlwind Style 280598. 100 – 125 volt, 50-60 Cycles. Fan Blades: 8 Solid Brass. The fan was fully disassembled, completely cleaned and all paint completely stripped to bare metal. The surface was primed, sealed and several coats of hand rubbed. Once applied and cured, the paint was hand rubbed to create a brilliant finish. All of the hardware was cleaned, re-plated, and polished to a brilliant shine. The badge was repainted and polished. The motor coils were in excellent condition and only required cleaning. A new 8 foot antique style cord and plug (UL approved for safety) were installed. A new inline on/off switch was also installed. New green wool felt was applied to the bottom of the base. The oil reservoirs where cleaned and new wicks were installed. Once everything was assembled, the fan was oiled and tested for 4 hours to make sure everything was working properly. The motor runs quite, strong and smooth. This fan operates just like it should. The final result is a stunning one of a kind functioning antique that will bring many years of enjoyment. This fan is the perfect size to display in your office, on a desk or on a shelf. Everything on this fan works as originally intended. No corners were cut during the refurbishment process. It was restored to resemble the original factory specifications and is a fine example of a professional restoration. This fan has lasted more than 100 years and now it is ready for many more.
