1914 Brass Parker 4 Blade & Cage Fan 19648. 3 Speed Unrestored – Working. 1914 Emerson Electric Fan. 4 Brass Parker Blades one blade is stamped on the front THE PARKER FAN BLADE, and PAT’D Sept. The data plate on the motor reads: THE EMERSON ELECTRIC MFG CO, NEW YORK, ST. LOUIS, VOLTS 110, TYPE 24666, CYCLES 60, NO. Referencing the Early Electric Fans: Dating Early Emerson Brass Blade Fans page, the number 19648 breaks down as follows: (19) 19 Series, (6) 60 cyles, (4) 4 blades, (8) 16 diameter blades. The 19648 was produced from 1914-18. Steel cages were introduced in 1918, and the magnet does not stick to this cage, so I believe the cage is brass and the fan was made prior to 1918. Three speeds on the base (all working). Large size motor works great and relatively quietly. Much of the sound the fan makes is from the blades themselves. The plug and the cord look to be original, as well as the rest of the fan appears original and in unrestored condition to me. If so, it is in remarkable condition for its age of nearly 100 years. The badge on the cage is quite nice. The black finish on the mounts has minor chipping but is overall in decent condition in my opinion. The blades are in decent condition with minor tarnishing here and there and a few light scratches. The cast iron hub, motor housing and trunion base are all in good physical condition with no cracks or breaks. The finish is in great shape overall, having only dulled with age and there is just a bit of wear or chipping at the back of the base (see pictures). Under the base is the original hard card protector. The rubber feet that would have been in the holes used to mount the fan to the wall are partially worn, but the fan sits nice and stable. It is quite heavy and sturdy. My research indicates this is a very desirable fan. Considered one of the best ever made, even rarer with the brass cage, and a general favorite among collectors. It is quite beautiful in my opinion – a piece of mechanical art.
